Description

2005 Ford GT
VIN: 1FAFP90SX5Y400447
Red with White Stripes and Black Leather

The Ford GT began as a concept car designed in anticipation of the automaker's centennial year. At the 2002 Detroit auto show, Ford unveiled a new GT40 Concept car. Carroll Shelby was brought in by Ford to help develop the Ford GT; which included performance testing of the prototype car, but Camilo Pardo the head of Ford's \"Living Legends\" studio, working under the guidance of J Mays, is credited as the chief designer.

The GT was produced in model years 2005 and 2006, with the first customers taking delivery in August 2004. It total, just over 4,000 Ford GTs were produced, with just 1,900 built during 2005. As with many exotic vehicles, when the Ford GT was first released, the demand outpaced supply, and the cars sold for premium prices. Optional equipment available included a McIntosh sound system, racing stripes, painted brake calipers, and forged alloy wheels adding an additional $13,500 to the MSRP. Today, they remain rare and sought after cars, with low mileage, well-optioned examples often finding their way into collections of exceedingly high caliber cars.

This particular GT is one such example, ordered with all four options, and is a two owner car with 8,600 miles since delivery. Sold new in December of 2005 via Don Kott Ford in Carson, California to the current owner, this Ford GT is accompanied by every work order, owner’s handbooks, and other documentation gathered since it was new. The factory CV bolt campaign has been completed, and a protective 3M film has been applied to the frontal facing areas and the door sills to ensure an unmarked appearance. The car is otherwise unchanged, and entirely stock. Owned from new by two mature custodians familiar with high performance and exotic Ferraris, among other makes, this GT has been truly well cared for. It has never been tracked or raced, and has never required any paintwork of any kind. It is “no stories”, investment grade automobile.

As would be expected of a low mileage, enthusiast owned car, the cosmetic presentation of this Ford GT is excellent. Protected by 3M clear bra, the frontal facing area is almost completely free of rock chips or road rash. The windows, trim pieces, and balance of the paintwork is all in virtually “as-new” condition. Three of the wheels have small nicks on them, each of which les less than an inch in length. Similarly, the interior has a like-new appearance, with only light wear to the driver’s seat bolster and a handful of small marks. The kick plates are protected with 3M film, and while the film has a few scuffs from ingress and egress, the plates themselves are largely unmarked as is the case with the leather, dash, headliner, and inner door panels. Both the engine bay and the underside are representative of a well detailed, carefully owned, fair weather enjoyed car. The car is absolutely without issue mechanically.

When compared with other “Supercars” such as the Ferrari F40, Mercedes SLR, and the Porsche Carrera GT, it can certainly be argued that the Ford GT is a more practical, economical, and reliable option. The GTs don’t have the parts availability or service problems of the Ferraris, nor are they as cost-prohibitive or unmanageable as the SLRs or the Carrera. The Ford GT is very fast, very rare, but also very comfortable and easy to maintain, truly the best of both worlds.

Included with the sale is a car cover, a portfolio with invoices, manual pouch with manuals, sales brochures and other literature, magazines with articles relating to the Ford GT, and a factory issued poster highlighting the cars. Records for all service work carried out since new (work completed by Cerritos Ford in Los Angeles), the window sticker and also included. In short, this is the type of car any serious enthusiast will be proud to own. Despite being a relatively new car, the Ford GT has already enjoyed considerable appreciation. Certainly they have the rarity, performance, and evocative appearance required to create a classic car in the future, and the consistent and significant appreciation these cars have enjoyed in recent years is a testament to the interest these cars are already receiving.
