General Overview

When Henry Ford began producing cars well over 100 years ago, no one imagined that the simple and austere Model T would lead to one the most amazing performance cars of the century. Penned by Camilo Pardo, then head of the “Legends” studio, the GT40 concept car was lauded for its beauty and engineering advancements, but, despite the 2003 concept launch, industry experts doubted it would ever see production. Yet Ford shocked the public in 2004 announcing production delivery through 2005. In a matter of months, demand far exceeded supply as the public witnessed the Ford GT besting many vastly more expensive contemporary exotics – all while being more reliable and less costly to maintain. Just as Ford had so surprisingly done when they beat Ferrari on the racetrack, the unprecedented “one-two-three” Le Mans victory reminded everyone that Ford could once again build a supercar capable of delivering premier performance.

During the two-year production run from 2004-2005, Ford built 4,000 GTs. Anyone fortunate enough to purchase one new could choose from just four available options: a McIntosh sound system, Racing Stripes, Painted Brake Calipers, and Forged Alloy Wheels. The new design featured an aerodynamically advanced body, doors that cut into the roof for easy entrance and exit, a sweeping windshield, a potent supercharged mid-engine seen through the rear window, and intake/warm air extractors that significantly improved engine and brake cooling. The Ford GT also incorporated several innovative technologies including a superplastic thermo-formed frame, aluminum formed body panels, roll bonded floors (for increased rigidity and structural improvement), a lightweight magnesium center console, and a dizzying array of hyper-technology manufacturing processes leveraging state of the art composite materials and bonding technology employed in the lightweight frame. The resultant chassis was so resilient that it was capable of meeting modern safety requirements within a very short window of development time. Exceptional technology was not limited to the chassis alone as the mid-mounted 5.4-liter Ford Modular dual overhead cam V8 engine, equipped with a Twin-Screw Supercharger, was mated to a Ricardo six-speed manual transmission. The Ford GT delivered top numbers in every performance test with 0-60 3.3 second times, the quarter mile lapsing in 11.4 seconds, and a top speed over 205 mph.

Over the past 20 years since these cars debuted, the Ford GT has become even more sought-after as collectors grow increasingly appreciative of the distinctive looks, analog driving properties, and celebrated racing heritage. Having grown significantly in value, enthusiasts continue to seek out preserved examples featuring excellent provenance and documented low mileage.

History of This Car

This Ford GT was delivered to John Kennedy Ford in Feasterville Trevose, PA, July 7, 2005. According to the factory window sticker supplied with the car, it was finished in Mark IV Red, optioned with dual painted white center racing stripes, red disc brake calipers, and a McIntosh stereo with subwoofer. The first owner titled the car in September 2005 with the second and current owner titling the car in November 2005 with 735 miles recorded at that time. The car remained in the New Hampshire area with services performed at dealerships including interval services and emissions inspections. In 2011, the current owner transferred the New Hampshire title to his trust, remaining under second ownership. Service in preparation for sale include an oil and filter change, battery and charging system check, tire condition and pressure check, and safety recall campaign action performed replacing the driver side airbag and airbag assembly.

General Condition

Today this beautifully preserved Ford GT presents in excellent condition with beautiful factory original gleaming Mark IV red paint, stunning factory stripes, beautiful alloy wheels, and all glass, lenses, and exterior body trim in excellent cosmetic condition. The upper body panels are very nice with excellent fit throughout. The lower body panels and front and rear bumper caps are also in excellent condition. The front air dam displays minimal marks on the underside edges and no notable rock chips on the front fascia. A minor stone chip is noted on the top left fender and a small scuff mark just aft of the left headlight. There are no chips or scratches in the gorgeous original wrap-around windshield. All glass panels retain factory correct brand etches. The alloy wheels are in excellent condition wearing a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 235/45 ZR18 front and 315/40 ZR19 rear tires.

Stepping up to the driver’s door, the cleverly recessed door latch under the body contour easily opens the iconic out-swinging door and integrated roof panel. The interior features are refined, meticulous, and original. The ebony leather and assorted interior materials are smooth, tidy, and reflective of original quality with excellent seat stitching and uniform sheen to the leather surfaces. The supple leather trimmed seats, contoured dashboard, and center console are beautifully finished and preserved consistent with the indicated 1,489 miles. The polished door sill plates, door insert trim, and alloy dash trim features are in excellent condition. The six-speed manual is a delightful engagement to any performance enthusiast who enjoys manual shifting. Lightened alloy foot pedals further convey the racing heritage of these superlative cars. Under the hinged clamshell rear deck, the powerful and visually engaging supercharged engine has been meticulously maintained both mechanically and cosmetically, showing little to no signs of use. The exposed suspension, mechanical components and detailed features are all in excellent condition throughout. Lifting the hinged front section reveals a clean and meticulously maintained storage area showing factory fresh finishes and details.

The undercarriage of the car is very well maintained with no notable damage or significant road marks. Even the reverse-dimpled aerodynamic factory chassis armor panels remain in place in excellent condition. Importantly, this car is outfitted with later series machined alloy suspension arms, favorably fitted at all corners. The various exposed components in the underside are further in excellent condition displaying a clean and fresh appearance, showing virtually no evidence of use. There are no signs of structural compromise to the chassis or major suspension attachment points, further confirmed by the accident-free current Carfax report.

The car starts easily, setting off the supercharged dual overhead camshaft V8 engine that resonates perfectly at idle. The seats are comfortable for taller or longer legged drivers and the seating position offers expansive forward visibility over the beautifully arched front fenders. Acceleration is progressive and street-friendly without lumbering in higher gears or creating challenging parking maneuvers with heavy steering. When summoned, power comes on strong launching to highway speeds in a matter of seconds. Cornering and braking are on a par with some of the best track cars of this period, and yet, all this power and performance can be docile, cruising in moderate traffic while enjoying the McIntosh stereo and comfortable air conditioning.

Ready for immediate and enjoyable use, this Ford GT remains one of the most sought-after modern collectible supercars and certainly one of the most iconic examples of premium performance. Steeped in GT40 heritage and racing traditions, this 2005 Ford GT represents enjoyable premium sports car ownership without the fuss and maintenance challenges experienced in many comparable exotics.
