General Overview

Introduced in 1996, the flagship Maranello replaced a long line of twelve-cylinder mid-engine cars that began with the Berlinetta Boxer and advanced to the Testarossa. Designed to capture the glory days of Ferrari’s legendary front-engine V12 powered sports cars (notably the legendary 275 GTB and 365 GTB/Daytona), the Maranello was welcomed by an enthusiastic public and jubilant automotive press. The Pininfarina styling evoked all the grace and muscularity of many earlier Ferraris without succumbing to retro design ideas. The aggressive, yet beautifully proportioned body hunkered down over the 485 hp V12 engine mated to a desirable gated 6-speed manual transaxle, delivering a delightful harmony of power and grace in a highly capable and surprisingly agile road car. Although total production was just 3,083 for the entire run, it’s believed that fewer than 500 examples were built in 2000 before production halted in 2001.

History of This Car

This 550 Maranello was sold to the first owner through the Ferrari authorized dealer Ferrari of Ontario, Canada on April 26, 2000. According to a copy of the original purchase invoice included with the car, this car was optioned with silver brake calipers, dark gray dashboard and A-pillars, and matching dark gray steering wheel. The first owner, unafraid of accumulating kilometers, had the car serviced at the selling dealer in November 2000 with 16,463 kms, with subsequent services in March 2003 with 50,992 kms and in May 2004 with 59,643 kms.

The owner continued to drive the car with regular services for fluid flushes and oil changes recorded in the numerous service invoices retained with the car. Notable service items include new front ball joints (2004), unspecified refinishing CAD$3,792 (2006), new alternator and battery (2008), timing belts replaced (2009 – 86,000kms), and a major service (2014). A June 2014 vandalism report is noted on the Carfax with a CAD$1,608 claim. In 2015, the current owner purchased this Maranello and continued regular services along with addressing other items including restoring sticky steering wheel column surfaces, redoing the leather on the right side of the dashboard, new belts and idler pulley, resealing leaking manifolds, and other details performed by Ferrari of San Antonio, TX. In 2019 additional work included addressing all remaining sticky surfaces, trim, and buttons, new timing belts, and new belly pan fasteners. In 2020 (5,500 miles having since lapsed) the timing belt was replaced, a new front suspension kit was installed, new upper and lower control arm bushings installed, new ball joints, new both outer sway bar end links and bushings, and new shock mounts. In 2025, the AC system was serviced and recharged and in preparation for sale a new set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport front 255/40ZR18 and 295/35ZR18 rear tires and four-wheel balancing has been performed.

General Condition

Today this 550 Maranello presents as an excellent driver level example of one of the very best touring cars, culminating the Enzo era front V12 powered Ferraris that marked the end of the 20th century. Finished in Titanium Gray over Dark Gray Leather interior, this elegant color combination pairs the powerful exterior with the sporting interior. The paint presents with excellent gloss throughout, deep luster, and excellent factory fit to all panel lines. The finish has been metered with a digital paint depth meter returning lower single digit numbers on all surfaces with 10-12 recorded on the left rear fender. The front and rear bumpers have excellent fit to the body and all opening features open and close properly. An invoice for service includes refinishing the front bumper for cosmetic improvement. The inner door, hood, and trunk surfaces and door jambs are in excellent condition. The windshield, rear, and side glass are in very nice condition, all of which retain the Ferrari brand glass etches. The lighting and taillight lenses are excellent throughout with no notable chips, harsh sunlight crazing, or blemishes, though the leadlight covers have fogged which is common for this series. The emblems and script are very well preserved and detailed. The factory wheels with matching Ferrari yellow centers are in excellent condition. Silver finish brake calipers are perched at each corner, and a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires were installed in October 2025.

The interior is very nice overall with a dynamic combination of elegance and performance. The switches and various knobs function properly having benefited from comprehensive sticky surface, vents, trim, and knob restoration. The leather surfaces are supple and smooth with excellent surfacing and no discoloration. The interior color combination is both elegant and sporty, recalling the look and feel of the original and inspiring Daytona particularly in the patterned seat inserts. Beautiful and original interior touches include enameled crossed flags on the center console, traditional luggage straps over the rear parcel tray, and the impressive gated 6-speed manual gearbox. The trunk area remains essentially stock with factory carpet, correct finishes, and tire inflator stored under the hinged floor.

Under the hood, the amazing Ferrari V12 engine has been properly serviced and detailed, featuring correct alloy engine and fuel injection castings in excellent condition. The factory housings and accessory equipment are in excellent condition with thoughtful detailing. Ferrari number plates, factory installation stickers, and verification markings are in place including the factory paint sticker. The original engine and engine compartment are clean and correct and benefit from continuous and recent belt service performed in 2020 just 5,500 miles ago. The underside of the car is in very good original condition retaining the factory exhaust, correct suspension components, aerodynamic chassis pans, and no visual evidence of structural compromise to the chassis or main suspension mounting points.

The car drives and shifts beautifully with no hesitation and progressive power delivery coupled to the impressive 6-speed manual gearbox. The suspension offers superb stability and high-speed control but is just at home as a casual touring car. Road manners are exactly as described when contemporary automotive press praised the 550 Maranello for its phenomenal acceleration and surprising ease of use.

This beautiful Ferrari 550 Maranello offers known history since new, desirable colors and thoughtful maintenance history. Offering a distinctive combination of power and prestige befitting the Maranello name, this modern supercar delivers Ferrari heritage and performance worthy of the original V12 lineage that vaulted the marque to become the pinnacle of high-performance sports cars.
