Description

2018 Ford GT
VIN: 2FAGP9CW5JH100029
Liquid Blue with Orange Racing Stripes and Black Interior

At the turn of the 20th century a modest car company produced a simple but highly efficient production car. The Model T would revolutionize the auto industry, but in the coming decades, the same company would also develop some of the most amazing performance cars of the century. By the 1960s Ford Motor Company was a force of racing development, technological advancement, and performance engineering that would spillover to their product offerings. Not unlike America’s race to the moon, Ford campaigned with some of the greatest names in motorsports to achieve ground-breaking vehicles of extraordinary performance. In 2003, Ford shocked the performance industry with the all-new GT40 Concept car, the retro-futurist design recounting the 1-2-3 Ford victory at Le Mans over Ferrari. As a celebration of their 100 years of operation, the Ford GT was an appropriate statement celebrating their past. But it 2015, the past took a back seat as Ford looked firmly into the eye of the future, revealing a technological juggernaut of superlative performance, aerodynamic engineering, and sheer audacity; the all new Ford GT.

Marking 50 years since Fords 1966 win at Le Mans, the 2016 GT was announced at the 2015 North American International Auto Show. Having been developed under a cloak of absolute secrecy, only a dozen key engineers and designers were aware of the details of the project. From the start, a significant aspect of the development rested in high speed aerodynamic efficiency, targeting Le Mans with key measures of surface air management for cooling, braking, downforce, and laminar flows. Using a compact teardrop profile, the design focused on two modules that merged a tapered cabin into a nearly vanished rear profile. The resultant configuration was so advanced that the rear wheels are suspended outside the internal cockpit with the roofline buttresses structurally connecting the rear of the car to the main fuselage.

The tightly packaged engine compartment called for a compact high-performance engine, unleashed by the Ford Raptor team. The result was a 3.5 Liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 with a ground-pounding 647hp on tap via sophisticated engine management mapping which can be further tapped for additional performance. The massive turbos, aluminum intake manifold, custom dry sump lubrication system, a uniquely profiled camshaft, and higher strength rotating and timing drive components all came together to form a unique lightweight engine package. Paired to a Getrag 7-speed dual clutch gearbox (with 6th and 7th gear both overdrive for comfortable highway cruising), the power delivery in any of five driving modes is absolutely breathtaking. 0-60 times happen in a cheek-tightening 2.9 seconds, while quarter mile times of 10.9 seconds and trap speeds of 130 mph reminds anyone that the Ford GT is essentially a street-legal racecar.

The butterfly doors, massive rear wing, tapered sail panels, and dramatic carbon fiber body lines all perfectly blend into a unique and fresh design, capturing the essence of the original GT40, yet packed with state-of-the-art technology. The carbon fiber monocoque structure is bolted to alloy front and rear subframes which serve as active stress members for the hydraulically adjustable pushrod suspension system and their mounts. These adjustments allow for spring rate dampening in either Track or Vmax modes, and also control a front axle raising and lowering system to accommodate steep ramp angles or road impediments. Braking is managed by massive Brembo ceramic 15.5” discs and six-piston monoblock calipers at front with 14.1” four-piston units at the rear. Every aspect of performance and durability have been packed into this superlative sports car. Even the hydraulic and clutch systems have cooling features and are sealed for life with no required maintenance. Details and technical features surround the car at every corner from the dramatic exterior to the perfectly laid out interior. The Ford GT is every bit a supercar, built in limited quantities of only 250 per year, allotments sold out immediately in the first year and have been continually in demand, year after year.

This stunning 2018 Ford GT was delivered new from the factory to the current and only owner who ordered the car with Liquid Blue exterior paint and Competition Orange stripes to replicate the original Gulf sponsored 1966 GT40 #1049. Known as the “Grady Davis” GT40, Davis was a senior executive with Gulf and is credited with bringing Gulf to international motor racing. The Gulf campaign eventually became iconic to the GT40 and other significant race cars of this era. In 1967 Jackie Icyx and Dick Thompson drove the GT40 to 6th place in the 24 Hours of Daytona.

In addition to the special paint and stripes ($15,000.00 additional cost option, other options include:

20” Gloss Black Aluminum Wheels
Carbon Fiber Exterior finish (gloss)
Launch Control
Titanium Lugnuts
Indoor Car Cover (Blue)
Outdoor Car Cover (Orange)

Today, having covered a mere 289 miles, this beautifully preserved Ford GT presents essentially as new with gleaming factory original Liquid Blue paint, living up to the name. The gloss and depth are amazing, highlighted by the optional glossy finish carbon fiber body trim panels. The gloss finish 20” black wheels blend perfectly into the bodywork, accented by orange brake calipers (painted to match the stripes) further conveying the 1966 Le Mans car that carried the matching paint scheme. The “Gorilla Glass” windscreen, designed using the same process as durable cell phone screens, is in excellent condition. As an important protection, the windshield and all contact body surfaces are coated with a thin clear film. The lenses, and exterior body trim throughout the car are also in excellent cosmetic condition. There are no chips or scratches in the gorgeous body, particularly along the rocker panels and front fascia. At the rear of the car, the active wing, adjustable for increased airflow management, spreads out across the entire rear of the car. The twin rear exhaust and hollowed taillights put a fantastic signature on the authoritative view; a view that essentially all approaching motorists may only ever be fortunate enough to see.

Stepping up to the driver’s door, the latch is easily accessed as the door swings upward in butterfly configuration, revealing the distinctive interior as it opens up the body. The stepped-in tub not only illustrates the dramatic cockpit configuration, it shows the tight relationship between the structure and exterior design. Every aspect of the car is harmoniously built as a total whole. The ebony black interior immediately displays excellent Alcantara and carbon fiber finishes throughout including smooth and supple contoured seats, expansive dashboard, and digital information console, all beautifully finished with fine materials and careful craftsmanship. This example is optioned with the “Launch Control” ($25,000.00) package of interior options, featuring orange accents. As driver’s seat position was optimized using a fixed location, both the steering wheel and pedals are adjustable. The steering wheel houses the major driving and entertainment controls, echoing developments found in race cars that maximize driver control during high speed, split-second decision making. Paddle shifters are located directly behind the wheel for quick shifting action from the 7-speed gearbox. The digital information binnacle resides directly in view, offering multiple digital screen settings for a range of driving conditions, including launch control, which allows lightening quick launch speeds via computer managed millisecond wheel spin control.

Visible through the rear engine glass, the beautifully composed twin-turbocharged engine features excellent finishes and essentially presents as new. Unlike the previous Ford GT the majority of engine, suspension, mechanical components, and detailed features are hidden from view, seamlessly integrated into carefully designed aerodynamic skin that limit turbulence. A small storage area is offered at the rear of the engine with just enough room to store a compact fashion handbag. Lifting the small hinged front section reveals a clean and meticulously maintained mechanical area showing factory fresh finishes and receptacles for fluid management. The underside of the car is further representative of factory delivered cosmetic and structural condition with all carbon fiber belly panels in place and virtually no evidence of road wear.

The car starts immediately, setting off a wicked blast of energy that resonates your core. Seating position inside is excellent offering great forward visibility and side views of remarkable expanse. While the rear of the car is wide and might feel challenging to manage, rear visibility is quite good and seating position ideal for even long drivers. But the big excitement of course comes when you can put all this advanced engineering to the test. Acceleration is phenomenally strong when pressed into duty, yet still offers surprisingly street-friendly driving manners even at slower speeds. Though agile and comfortable in general traffic, the joy of driving a car of this level comes on an open section of highway allowing the GT to display the tremendous performance and engineering refinement Ford packed into such a responsive car. Power comes on instantly as the car jumps to speed and an unforgettable rush of rocket-like acceleration launches you forward. Cornering and braking are simply magical, and yet, all this race-bred performance still yields a very usable road car.

This rare and amazing Ford GT comes with all factory accessories including purchase records, tow hook, a spare key, Ford Performance battery tender, car cover, Ford Performance books, manuals, and accessory package, all packaged in the original factory cases.
