General History

In 1999, Ferrari released the 360 Modena. The result was a remarkable car using some of the most advanced production methods of construction combined with a newly derived V8 engine. The aluminum space frame chassis was state of the art being 40% stiffer than the F355 and yet 28% lighter. The new engine developed just under 400hp, while taking advantage of the developments incorporated using advanced aerodynamic testing, mid-engine layout, and an engine configuration that no longer necessitated costly “engine out” timing belt services. Visually the new 360 was unlike anything before, curvaceous, yet aggressive and the first to feature the now iconic clear engine cover. Fresh and innovative, the 360 delivered a distinct Ferrari look and feel combined with ground-breaking performance. But there was more to come.

In 2003 the Challenge Stradale arrived on the scene, leveraging technology directly from Ferrari FIA GT and Challenge Series racing efforts. The lighter, better handling, and more powerful Stradale shed carpeting for rubber mats and employed lightened carbon fiber door panels. A lightweight Lexan rear windscreen, carbon fiber seats, and rear mirrors all combined to reduce overall weight by 242 lbs. The five valve per cylinder engine benefitted from special lightweight pistons, improved airflow, and lightweight exhaust resulting in 425hp output, complete with throttle response and sonorous exhaust notes trumpeting at the 8500 rpm redline. Lower ride height, titanium coil springs, and adjustable suspension settings further delivered with superlative handling. Outfitted with Pirelli PZero Corsa tires and race ready carbon-ceramic brake rotors bound to six-piston alloy calipers, the resultant power and performance combination remain today among the best available in a road car.

Current Condition and Ownership

According to the window sticker accompanying this car, this Ferrari was delivered to the first owner, well-known Ferrari dealer and collectors at “The Collection” in Coral Gables, FL. Optioned with Italian flag tri-color central stripe, alloy brake calipers, battery charger, 6-disc CD changer, carbon fiber seats, leather trim for doors, rear shelf, and headliner, colored steering wheel, and special stitching, this Challenge Stradale was used minimally during its first ten years under original ownership. In 2014, with approximately 700 miles showing, the car was delivered to the second and current owner, a Ferrari collector and enthusiast whose collection has included a 458 Italia, and an 812 Superfast. During current ownership the title was transferred to the same owner, named in trust (noted as the third owner on the Carfax). Under current ownership the car has been stored indoors, used sparingly, and maintained by Ferrari specialists.

Cosmetic presentation

Today this beautifully maintained and sparingly driven Ferrari presents in exceptionally fine condition, confirming the remarkably low miles it has covered since delivered new. The paint finish is excellent throughout, showing deep gloss on all Corsa Red exterior surfaces. Paint meter readings confirm thicknesses throughout all areas consistent with factory paint. The front of the car (hood, bumper cap, front fenders, and side view mirrors) has been treated with Expel paint protection film in 2014. The areas with protective film show readings consistent with poly-layer thickness and factory paint. The side glass has 3M Crystalline window film installed to offer better UV protection for the interior. All body panels display uniform factory fit throughout the car including clean inner surfaces and door jambs. The Challenge wheels are in excellent condition along with the Pirelli tires, date coded 2013.

The interior of the car is in especially nice condition. The leather is supple and smooth with excellent surfacing and no marks of note. The dashboard, instruments and switches are all in near new condition, attributed to these components having been professionally refinished by Stickynomore. The steering wheel, dash pad, and instrument cluster are free of wear. The driver’s seat has no marks or notable bolster wear while all other leather surfaces including the optional leather headliner and upper door panels, are in excellent to near new condition. Throughout the cabin, carbon fiber elements and red stitching accents finish the cabin echoing competition themes unique to the Challenge Stradale. The front storage area remains essentially new and consistent with the quality of the interior, being also factory original. Clearly the previous owners have maintained this car with proper care and enthusiastic consideration, protecting the quality and excellence of this example with minimal use.

Under the hood, the innovative light alloy quad cam V8 engine has been properly maintained benefiting from a recent 30k service. All casting finishes, factory housings and original accessory equipment appear as delivered when new. Ferrari factory number plates, factory installation stickers, and verification markings are in place and in excellent condition. The original engine and engine compartment are clean and correct. The underside of the car shows almost no signs of use, once again reflective of the low miles. Owing to the years it has spent in the mild California climate since new, even the floor pans and cast parts show little to no signs of age. There is no visual evidence of structural compromise to the floor, chassis components or suspension mounts. In all respects, the underside of this Ferrari is as well maintained as the exterior and interior finish.
