Description

1974 Ferrari 246 GTS Dino s/n 8430 Rosso Corsa with Tan Interior Among of the very last 246 Dinos produced, this late 1974 US model Dino was equipped from the factory with power windows, Daytona seat inserts, and air conditioning. It was sold new to the US and has past through very few, long term owners en route to the current owner who purchased this fine example in 2002. Much mechanical and cosmetic restoration work has been performed, including an engine rebuild in 1998 by Fiorano Motors in Monterey, California, and a repaint from bare metal by Jerry Graham in 2000. Few cars command the level of interest which Dinos do in today`s marketplace. Their timeless lines, light nimble feel, and mechanical simplicity make the 246 Dinos some of the 1970s most desirable cars. The history of this GTS is known from new. Ownership and service notes accompany the car which outlines meticulous maintenance throughout the last 10 years. This work includes engine rebuilt invoices, a cooling system service, and brake rotor replacement. In 2006 the motor was removed, the valves adjusted and engine serviced, detailed, and resealed. A new clutch, ring gear, and pressure plate were installed. Many new fuel and cooling lines were installed. The distributors and carburetors were completely serviced. The A/C system was fully serviced at great expense and continues to blow cold. A new stainless Tubi exhaust system was installed at a cost of almost $3,000! The steering rack and pinion assembly was rebuilt, and the car was aligned. All four tires were replaced with period correct Michelin XWX less than 5,000 miles ago. Receipts for routine service and tuning are also present. The bulk of this work was performed by Italian car expert Norbert Hofer in southern California. The cosmetic restoration work performed is of extremely high caliber. The body is exceptionally straight with very good panel match and door shut. The paint has a mirror-finish look, and save for one minor blemish on the color matched targa top, is virtually flawless. The chrome appears to have been redone at the time of the repaint is excellent throughout. The window glass and lenses are free from chips and scratches. This example sits on beautifully restored Cromodora wheels. The interior is fitted older tan leather with moderate patina. At some point in the cars life, the Daytona seat inserts were removed. The original `mouse hair` dash material remains and is in very good condition considering its age. Like the seat upholstery, the carpets are also older, but remain serviceable. The gauges are all factory units and are in very good condition. This car retains its targa top cover, which is also in good condition. The engine bay is beautifully detailed above and below. The motor and transmission assembly are extremely dry, a tribute to the recent work performed by Norbert Hofer. The frontal storage area is clean and complete, with very good plastic surround. The underside this car is in good order, and representative of a well kept 34 year old car. The trunk is fitted with correct carpet material and is in very good condition. The car drives well. The engine makes excellent power with no smoke and that wonderful V6 exhaust note we all know and love. The transmission shifts smoothly with very good second gear syncro when warm. The clutch has an unusually light operation, and the brakes are effective. We are delighted to recommend this fine, late production 246 GTS. Accompanied by the original manuals and holder, key fob, dash cloth, tools, jack, jack bag, and a wonderful paper trail to confirm the mileage as correct, this car offers everything the new owner could possibly hope for. An exceedingly sensual shape, and excellent investment piece, it is no wonder that values for Ferrari 246 Dinos continue to escalate.
