Description

1973 Alfa Romeo Alfetta s/n AR2030481 Le Mans Blue with Brown Wool Interior Extremely rare in the United States, the Alfetta Berlina incorporates a number of technologically innovative features in an attractive and practical package. It also epitomizes the most pleasurable Alfa Romeo driving characteristics that have given Alfa their dedicated enthusiast following. The Alfetta was introduced in 1973 and incorporated De Dion rear suspension to provide reliable and comfortable roadholding, inboard rear disc brakes to reduce unsprung weight, and a transaxle to improve weight distribution. This car is an early European example with twin Solex carburetors, which makes it very sprightly to drive. The low weight, peppy engine, and sophisticated suspension make this example exceptionally fun. Today, good examples of any Alfetta are virtually non-existent, so this car with its attractive European bumpers, lower weight, and exemplary condition is all the more desirable. The current owner found the car in Milan a few years ago and had the car imported to the States. It is a genuine low mileage car, showing just 79,539 original kilometers (49,314 miles), and is in remarkable original condition. Last year, he had over $7,000 in maintenance work performed to make the car 100% ready to enjoy, and indeed, he subsequently used the car in the `California Mel`. The Mel is a tour that makes a tongue-in-cheek reference to the California Mille, but is intended for more eclectic automotive creations from Triumph Heralds to Renaults to Chevy Novas. Among the recent maintenance work was the replacement of the brakes, brake lines, clutch, coil, spark plugs, wires, fluids, shock absorbers, hoses, and battery. The wheel bearings were also renewed as necessary, the carburetors adjusted, and the radiator refurbished. The exhaust system appears to have been recently replaced. The resulting car drives extremely well and is ready to enjoy. Cosmetically, the car is in fine original condition. The paint is original and presentable, but shows some slight fading. There are a few chips and scratches, but nothing to detract significantly from the car`s visual appeal. On the entire car, there are three areas of rust, all of which are superficial. The bottom of the right front door has a small amount of bubbling near the bottom, the left front door some bubbling along the top edge, and there is a small amount of deterioration near the trunk lock. Otherwise, the car is completely solid. The rockers, wheel arches, windscreen surrounds, valances, and splash areas are all 100% solid. The chrome is generally very good and presentable, though the bumpers have a few scars. The glass appears to be all original and shows minimal wear. The grilles are good and all lights and lenses are intact and excellent, including the correct Carello headlights. The wheels are Campagnolo alloys as optionally fitted to Alfetta GT and are very nice. They have been recently fitted with new Michelin tires. The interior is in stunning time-warp condition. The dashboard is free from shrinkage, fading, or cracks. The wood is in excellent condition, and the rare wool upholstery is unmarked, and looks very smart with its contrasting tan stitching. The gauges are in as new condition, and the wood-rimmed steering wheel is excellent. The carpets are also excellent, as are all gauges, knobs, trims etc. The headliner is correct and intact, but shows some minor discoloration. The door trims are outstanding. The engine compartment is solid, presentable, and generally tidy, but not detailed. The trunk is excellent aside from some discoloration to the carpeting. In all, this is an excellent example of a car in a configuration and condition that is extremely difficult to find. The combination of the light weight associated with the European specification, carbureted motor, low mileage, and originality make this car immensely appealing and genuinely fun.
