Description

1969 Porsche 911 T Coupe
s/n 119120432
Red with Black Interior

Early 911’s embody a combination that is rare among collector cars today. They have unparalleled drivability and usability, especially when compared with other cars of the same vintage, but are also wholly evocative of a different era. There is a certain wholeness, cohesiveness, agility, and communicativeness that is only evident when they are driven, and it is no surprise that they have a fanatical following. Until recently, however, they were just used cars, which makes finding genuinely solid examples which have been continuously cared throughout the car’s life very difficult today. All early 911`s have appreciated tremendously in recent years, with good solid cars seeing especially significant increases in value. In 1969, the wheelbase was lengthened to make the cars’ handling more manageable, and numerous other detail updates introduced as well.

This particular car is a black plate California car from new that has had essentially two-owners. The current owner purchased it from its original owner in 1995. The car received a bare metal repaint to red, at a cost of $9000. Additionally, the car has been recently serviced at a cost of nearly $2000 to include rebuilding the calipers, replacing the soft brake lines, installing new batteries, replacing the shift bushings, oil change, and carburetor tune. The current engine was installed about 500 miles ago, and the previously installed engine (likely original) is included with the sale. The car also has seats from a later 911 installed, and comes with two extra fuchs wheels.

Cosmetically, the car is in very nice driver condition. The paintwork was done to very good standards, and is in very nice condition, with only a few small blemishes in the form of an occasional scratch or chip. The body is straight and solid, and the panels fit well. The chrome trim is very good throughout, with only some scratches on the window trims. The lights and glass are in very good condition throughout.

The interior is presentable, with nice upholstery on the seats, door panels, and headliner. The upper dashboard is excellent, with none of the cracks or warping that typically affect these cars. The carpets are in good shape, but are non original in type. The switches and controls do show some aging in places, and the steering wheel rim is also showing some age.

The trunk is solid throughout and retains the correct type carpeting, as well as a Porsche jack. The engine compartment is unrestored, but is very tidy and generally correct in appearance. Despite the fact that the undercarriage shows some surface rust, it is structurally excellent and shows no signs of significant damage or repairs in the past, which is consistent with the car’s California history from new.

A recent pre-purchase inspection by a Porsche specialist revealed that the compression ranges from 150psi to 155psi on all six cylinders, and that the car drives nicely and the chassis feels very good. The inspection revealed a few small issues, but overall, the car was found to be a very good example both structurally and mechanically. The issues are that the fuel lines appear older (but function fine), there are two oil leaks (fron the pressure line from the engine to the tank, and a small rear main seal leak), and that the interior is incorrect.

This is a great opportunity to acquire an affordable and fundamentally excellent early 911. The car’s structural soundness makes it an excellent fundamental base, while it is mechanically in fine condition, making it an excellent car to drive and enjoy as is, or to drive as one improves its details. Its long time California ownership adds further appeal, and the car comes with records, extra engine, extra wheels, and a few miscellaneous parts.
