Description

1964 Porsche 356 C Racecar s/n 222040 White with Black Interior This open, disc brake, 356 Porsche has been converted for vintage racing. By serial number, it apparently started life as a C coupe. In the early 1990s it participated in HMSA and CSRG historic race events like the Monterey Historics and Wine Country Classic. Currently, it is somewhat of a project car as there is no motor, along with many other less significant parts. Cosmetically, the car is in fair `racecar` condition, consistent with that of an SCCA-type racecar. The body panels, and panel match, is by no means outstanding, but will continue to work fine as a racecar. The paint work is of average quality, but is fortunately white, and shows almost no flaws from just a few feet away. There is no top or side windows. The windshield pillars have been cut and the glass windshield replaced by a Plexiglas screen. Expect only what is photographed to be present with the car. The interior has been gutted in an effort to make the car as light as possible for track use. The Factory steering wheel remains, along with all the factory gauges. Extra VDO oil pressure and temp gauges have been added. A racing seat has been installed, and a 5-point harness. A full-coverage tonneau cover has been made to keep the dew off the interior on those cool Saturday nights at the racetrack. The chassis has been cut in front of the front swaybar mounts, and this area now houses a fabricated battery box and oil cooler. The remainder of the chassis is solid, but has seen some rust repair. The suspension all looks to be in very good condition, and is probably set up with racing in mind. The wiring to the gauges has been disconnected, but is still plumbed through the chassis. An electronic kill switch has been installed for racing. The transaxle is in place and appears complete. All the loose parts which accompany the car have been photographed. If you dont see a particular part on the car, or in the extra parts, it does not come with the car. Among the 356 As, Bs, and Cs, the C is by far the most developed and most desirable of the series. The 356Cs were fitted from the factory with disc brakes and a more powerful motor. This would make an ideal car to prepare for La Carrera Panamericana Road Race next October.
