Description

1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider s/n AR00530*10613* Yellow with Black Interior Built to bridge the gap between larger expensive cars and small utility cars, the Giulietta effectively saved Alfa Romeo during the postwar years. Thanks to it affordable price tag, beautiful Pininfarina styling (for the convertible), and innovative mechanical specifications, they were popular, sold well, and were easily adapted to competitive use. The Veloce, with its twin Weber carburetors, higher compression ratio, and hotter cam profiles, was a higher performance version that brought considerably improved performance. This particular car was restored in the early 1990`s, at which point it mechanically converted to Veloce specification, including the camshafts, big oil pan, motor mounts, and twin dual throat Weber DCOE 40 carburetors. During the restoration, it also received much work to convert it for competition use, though the owner has never found time to race it. Thus the car has never been raced, despite the preparation, which included the removal of the carpeting and the addition of a roll bar, which is approved for use by vintage racing sanctioning bodies. The engine was rebuilt by John Norman with a head by Rebello, featuring deLong cams and a Sammy Hale balanced crank shaft. The 5-speed gearbox was built by John Anderson and is backed by a lightened flywheel with Friction Materials clutch. The suspension was done by Dave Rush and employs Koni shock absorbers. The radiator was recored at this point as well. More recently, in the last month of 2007, the front brakes and muffler were replaced. The car is today a very presentable and attractive car for competition use. There are a few surface blemishes but the body itself is impressively straight and rust-free. The chrome has been selectively redone, including on the bumpers, but remains original elsewhere, with some light pitting present. The bumpers are in excellent condition and are exceptionally straight, and a Talbot side mirror is fitted. The windscreen has some pitting and wiper marks, while the lamps are intact and in good shape. The wheels are Panasport Minilight replicas with large Michelin tires, which give the car a very aggressive stance. The interior is very functional, with no carpets, and a host of additional instruments, which are likely to more reliable and informative than the originals. The seat upholstery is excellent, and the car is fitted with competition type Simpson belts. There is a wood-rimmed wheel from a later Alfa Romeo installed and the dashboard itself is very tidy, with all the original switches still present and well-preserved. The engine compartment and trunk continue the functional racer aesthetic, with no carpet and only what is necessary. The carburetors breathe through an ITG air filter, and remarkably, the original windscreen washer bag is still present. This is a great opportunity to acquire a car that would make the ideal vintage racer or aggressive street machine. It has had money and care in all the right places to ensure that it works properly, and importantly, the chassis itself is very sound. The offers and excellent fun per dollar ratio, and comes with a number of extras and spares, including the original steering wheel, side window mechanisms and vent windows, unrestored top frame, and several boxes of miscellaneous spares.
