Description

1955 MG TF 1500
s/n 4DB469260 Eng. No XPEG/3145
Red with Tan Leather

The TF was launched in 1953 as a “face-lifted TD with a sloping grille and the headlamps in the wings.” The following year, in 1954, MG offered the TF 1500, 1500 meaning 1466cc and 63 horsepower at 5500 rpm, using a redesigned XPEG motor. Some 3400 1500’s were made before production ceased in 1955 with news of the incoming MGA. The MG TF is often deemed the most desirable by collectors of the T series.

When first introduced, the MG TF was powered by a XPAG 1250cc engine. However, demands for additional power brought about another 250 cubic centimeters. With the sought after horsepower, the resulting vehicle was dubbed the MG TF 1500.

The TF was the final and most advanced model of MG’s admired T-series. It was a more aggressively styled version of the TD but built in far smaller numbers. The TF 1500 model built for the 1955 model year reached production of only 3,400 cars. The 1500cc engine produced 17% more torque than the 1250 of the previous year, thus making the TF 1500 more usable in modern traffic.

This particular car is a nice frame up restoration which was finished prior to the current owner’s purchase. It is finished in a beautiful shade of red with tan leather interior. The paint shows very well, while the interior, canvas top, boot, Tonneau cover, side curtains, and carpets are all in very nice condition. The top frame was also restored and shows very little wear. Throughout the car the body panel fit is very good, and the doors are tight and do not sag at the hinges as many do. The chrome is beautiful and the glass is in outstanding condition. The wooden steering wheel, dash and gauges are in excellent form. The knock-off chrome wire wheels are stunning and free of pitting, and are fitted with Pirelli Cinturanto P3 tires.

The car runs extremely well, and the motor, gearbox and suspension seem very tight. Since the car’s arrival at Fantasy Junction, we have replaced the soft brake lines and wheel cylinders. The car drives well, with good power, cornering, and stopping ability. The engine bay is very clean, and the engine has a lovely finned aluminum valve cover. The underside of the car shows no evidence of rust repairs.

This is one of 3400 TF 1500’s made, compared to roughly 6200 TF 1250’s that were built. While a lot of the history of this car is unknown to us, it has been issued The New England MG \"T\" Registry number 4562.

Enjoy a classic British sports car that will surely turn heads everywhere. A ready to drive example!
