Description

1954 Jaguar XK 120 Roadster s/n F36828, e/n F36828-8 Red with Tan Leather One of the 1950s most iconic motor cars, the Jaguar XK series have always a strong following. With a growing numbers of shows, clubs, and events catering to these cars, they continue to be in demand. XK 120s were built in three models: Fixed Head Coupes, Drop Head Coupes, and Roadsters. Roadsters bare the most attractive lines, were the most popular in-period, and remain the most sought after and collectable today. This particular car is a driver and will be ideal for the casual collector looking for an example which can be driven and enjoyed with a clear mind. It would be best described as an older restoration which has been road tested, sorted, and enjoyed. The body appears straight with reasonably good gaps at the bonnet, doors, and trunk. There is one dent at the bottom of the right door about the side of a dollar bill. There is an additional hole in front of the left door where the side mirror had once been placed. The repaint was an average job, and while the car still makes a strong impression, the paints is showing signs of use and starting to age. The chrome, aluminum, and stainless trim have minor pitting and hazing in selected areas. The windshield glass fits well. There is one small rock star in the bottom of the left pane. This example has a tan canvas soft top. The car sits on steel wheels, in older restoration condition. The interior is also representative of an older restoration. The seats, door panel, dash, and carpet upholstery all look to have been redone, but are again showing moderate age and wear. The car retains all the stock gauges in reasonably good condition. The indicator toggle is missing from the center of the steering wheel. The engine bay is nicer than the balance of the car. We understand the motor was rebuilt, and this is confirmed by the overall appearance of the motor. The engine is dry and fresh, with nicely polished aluminum valve covers and newly ceramic coated headers. The firewall and radiator areas are clean, but not in show condition. The underside is sound and solid, and shows signs of much recent work. This car just successfully completed the 2007 California Mille Miglia, and drives better than it looks. The engine starts easily and runs strong with minimal smoke. The transmission and clutch work well. The brakes have just been serviced by Jaguar expert Steve Gordon at Vintage Auto Service. This work included replacing and rebuilding the soft lines and many of the wheel cylinders. With the car comes the spare wheel, side windows, and a few other bits and pieces which will surely be of use to the new owner. There may also be records for work done during the current ownership period. As a pre-1957 car this XK 120 remains eligible for many of the premier historic rally events in North and South America, as well as in Europe.
