General Overview
Newly designed in 1953, the Tipo 1100/103 replaced the aging 1100E with a new stylish and modern body. Known for their uncanny design skills, Fiat combined frugal underpinnings with a charming and beguilingly spacious interior, modern exterior design, and improved performance. One of several in a similar category, the Swig Family Collection prepared and drove this car on numerous California Milles as shown on the door roundels.
Although the car was sidelined several years ago, cosmetics remain quite nice and ideal for mechanically inclined vintage enthusiasts to enjoy bringing this Fiat back to its formerly operational state. Brake hydraulics will need attention, the fuel system will need to be cleaned and lines replaced, and the owner reports that the engine was fitted with another head, but final mechanical sorting has not been completed.
Condition Overview
Today this rare Fiat presents in sound cosmetic condition which presents as an authentic and attractive example. The chrome are very good overall as are the grille trim pieces and side molding. The painted steel wheels are finished in black and white, featuring original polished hubcaps and Vredestein 165 R14 tires. Overall, the visual condition is ideal for local events, club gatherings, enjoyable driving, and vintage rallies. The interior appears to be very well-maintained including handsome grey cloth seating and door panels, along with a beautiful dashboard, column-mounted four-speed shifter and a wood rim Nardi steering wheel. The engine and engine compartment boast several preserved finishes and original details, but the engine will require attention to bring it to running condition. The underside is representative of a clean, dry car with no evidence of structural compromise to the unibody or main suspension mounting points.
