1952 Allard K2
s/n K2202
Red with Tan Interior

Representing the best of the British sports car spirit mixed in with a good measure of American hot rod style, Allards have always been interesting and enjoyable cars that have appealed to enthusiasts on both sides of the Atlantic. The K2 was introduced in 1950 to replace the K1, and featured coil sprung front suspension, bodywork revisions (including the addition of bumpers and semaphore trafficators), and choices of American V8 powerplants from Ford, Mercury, Cadillac, and others. Between 1950 and 1952, just 119 K2`s were built.

This particular car is unique because it has been fitted with a twin-cam Jaguar XK engine with triple SU carburetors. It was previously part of the Gene Ponder collection and has been comprehensively restored. In recent years (and miles), the car seen much restorative mechanical work, at the cost of about $20,000. The work performed included rebuilding the transmission, differential, axles, rear brakes, gas tank, and new clutch. The car now runs and performs very nicely and is ready to be enjoyed in driving evets. The car is also cosmetically excellent, and it won the Sid Colberg Award for The Best Sports Car from the Golden Era of Classic Sports Cars at the 2007 Hillsborough Concours dElegance. The car is nicely detailed and has been fitted with twin Brooklands windscreens.

The car is cosmetically excellent, with very nice paint that has been well-applied. There are no major blemishes to speak of, just a few small chips. The metal trim and chrome are excellent throughout, and the wheels are in superb condition as well. The leather hood strap is embossed with the Allard badge, and coupled with the Brooklands windscreens, provides a very evocative view for the driver. The tires are period Englebert items.

The interior was well done in tan with red accents and piping. The seats are leather and in excellent condition, and the carpets are hard wearing Berber that fits wonderfully. The dashboard and steering wheel are highly polished metal, and the instruments are Smiths items from a Jaguar, which are in freshly restored condition. There is some light wear to the steering wheel rim.

The engine compartment and trunk are both extremely clean and well-detailed. The underside is solid, and reveals interesting touches, such as the dual side exit exhausts, and the fitment of vented front disc brakes with stainless steel lines.

This is a very rare opportunity to acquire one of these rare and unusual cars, possibly the only one equipped with the more sophisticated (and English) dual overhead cam engine from Jaguar. This cars mechanical and cosmetic condition is also very attractive and ensures that it can be used in a wide variety of events including touring events and shows. Certainly against similar cars at significantly higher prices (a similar car made $121,000 in November of 2007 at auction), this car is a good buy as well.
