In 1955 the Mercedes Benz 300 SL Gullwing was absolutely the most advanced road going motorcar available to the general public. Its reliable, injected, 6 cylinder engine and aerodynamic, striking body were leaps and bounds ahead of anything that Jaguar, Ferrari or Porsche were mass producing. Today these cars are recognizable icons across all generations and useable in tour events worldwide.

Sold new in New York, this car has remained in California for much of its life. Best described as a partially restored, partially original example, this car has never been fully disassembled and restored, which is often to the detriment of the car's character. The current owners have, however, performed much recent mechanical and cosmetic work.

Currently, the car shows 49,000 miles. In 1996, Fantasy Junction sold this car to its current owners, who subsequently performed an extremely high quality repaint, re-stuffed and re-stitched the upholstery, restored all the exterior chrome, completely restored the trunk compartment, and performed a full service including the fuel injectors and injector pumps. All of the work was done by a marque specialist.

Much of the interior upholstery is original and in very good condition for its age. The steering wheel, gauges, and headliner remain original and in very good shape. The dash leather and carpets have been recently replaced. All the interior chrome is good.

The repaint appears fresh and has minimal rock chips. The gasketing on the doors and trunk has been replaced. All the exterior chrome has been re-plated and is perfect.

The engine bay is mostly original, having never had a full engine out detail. While not perfect, it shows a patina appropriate for a well cared for car of its age and miles.

The trunk is in perfect condition having recently been repainted in correct semi-gloss black and reupholstered with correct tweed carpet.

With the car comes an original Spare Parts Catalogue, an original Instruction Manual, and an original 300SL service book, the original radio, and both luggage cases. The jack, restored spare wheel and tire, and tool bag with tools are also present.
