1967 Vetta Ventura
s/n KP3001046
Yellow with Black Leather Interior with Yellow Piping

The colorful story of the Vetta Ventura begins with the Apollo, a beautiful Italian-styled car that was the brainchild of a pair of enthusiastic Californians. Introduced in 1964, the Apollo met with critical acclaim and was a very special car, with a body that was styled by Ron Plescia and Franco Saglione and produced in Turin, Italy by Carozzeria Intermecanicca. Unfortunately, due to financial problems, production proved to be irregular at best, and the entire endeavor was purchased by another firm and moved to Dallas, Texas from California. Just 88 Apollos were made, followed by another 19 Dallas-built Venturas.

This particular example may be the first of these 19 cars built because the chassis plate declares this as car number 1. Regardless, it is an incredibly rare car that has seen much work. The body is steel and is fitted with flared fenders, while the powerplant is a reliable 327 cubic inch General Motors unit coupled to a turbo hydra-matic automatic transmission.

Cosmetically, this car makes a strong impression with vibrant Fly Yellow paint that is in very nice condition. There are a few small surface blemishes and minor orange peel, but nothing to detract from the overall presentation of the car. The chrome trim is good excellent throughout, with superb bumpers and minor pitting on the window trims. The lights and glass are in excellent condition, including the Altissimo taillights that will look familiar to those who have closely inspected Ferrari PF`s and California Spyders.

The interior is also very nice, with smart yellow piping and evocative quilting to the rear parcel shelf and center console. There are also leather straps to hold baggage in place on the rear parcel shelf. The interior is surprisingly spacious and has obviously seen much recent attention. The leather, carpets, and headliner were all recently renewed and are like new, and the padded dashboard was also redone and displays nice attention to detail in the stitching to the leather. The tachometer is presently inoperative.

The engine compartment and trunk are both very nice, being very clean and detailed, though not for show. The engine has a modern alternator and looks to have been properly maintained.

This is an extraordinarily rare opportunity to acquire one of these interesting and rare Italo-American hybrids. Combining the best of Italian styling and American reliability, this car is sure to appeal to the enthusiast looking for something different. Though this car is incorrect in some details, Milt Brown, one of the two enthusiastic Californians who conceived and created the original Apollo, inspected this car and announced that he would be willing to collaborate with the new owner to return this car to its original specification, should the new owner so desire.
